I was taken by surprise when in 2009, post-divorce, I looked out at the ocean and asked, “What’s next?” The answer I clearly heard in my ear was, “You’ll go to the Hebrew texts and paint.” After a little arguing with God, or whatever that voice was, I decided to listen and take 30 days in silence, surrounded by Hebrew texts, handmade watercolor paper, my paints, and paintbrushes to see what would arise.
Painting what I would come to call The Alphabet of Vibration: Keys of Genesis; my series of Hebrew Letter Mandalas, felt like an initiation. My days were spent in meditation, listening in my mind to the letters and seeing images I then incorporated in my paintings. I am grateful for and honor my Jewish background and the wisdom of the mystics that informed me. VIEW ALL 23 KEYS HERE
During my silent retreat, my version of the Hebrew alphabet became my own. It reflects my colorful, multi-cultural, and inclusive soul that was longing to express itself in joyful, uplifting ways.
It reflects my colorful, multi-cultural, and inclusive soul that was longing to express itself in joyful, uplifting ways. In the tradition of Abraham Abulafia, Spanish Kabbalist, my letters can be used for meditation to gain deep insight into our true nature.
The 23rd Letter:
Hebrew Alphabet has 22 letters. There is a mystical story that when Moses broke the tablets, the letters flew off. 22 came back. It is said, when the 23rd returns we will have peace. I wanted to know what the 23rd Letter might look like, as I want peace. I received a strong image in a dream and painted that as my 23rd Letter, included in this series.
I am happy to experience the joy of Judaism and to support our continuing personal and collective awakening through The Alphabet of Vibration. I look forward to experiencing its power with you through my one woman show, Joyful Light Center, and art prints, cards, and gifts.
