I couldn’t wait to attend an art class with my favorite teacher, Karen Arp-Sandel, today after weeks of intense work and little play. This assemblage art box I made evolved as I followed my intuition and placed items in it as I felt called. It wasn’t until I placed the final butterfly in the doorway that I understood at a deep level what this piece means to me. I call it “gilded cage” and it speaks to the pain I felt my mother was feeling when she felt she had no other option than to take her own life.
I know the pain of feeling trapped. Many of us do. I am grateful to have tools to release and transform the thoughts, beliefs, and conditioning that holds me back from being free.
I took a deep breath when I completed this piece as I knew it connected me to my mom as I wished her well on her journey. What tools do you have to release whatever holds you back from being free to live your life fully? Have you created art that heals something inside you? I would love to hear.
gilded cage by Analesa Berg
trapped inside the crystal beauty
longing to fly free
imagining. fantasizing. doing her best.
thoughts torturing her soul
she had everything she could want
gold. diamonds. fur.
the best of the best
not fully alive and living her beauty and talent
alone and lost
days closing in
fly – with as much love as possible
